Good-bye, Garden, for now...

Thanks to the October 4 snow and a heavy frost, the garden is done for this year.  I think the catnip survived, but we certainly don't need more behavior changing drugs for the cat.

Mid-September harvest--a few more carrots, some cucumbers, some peppers, the last red tomatoes
Twelve ears of corn from our garden--it was kind of chewy, so not so tasty as "on the cob", but has been very tasty in corn muffins, soup, and "just" as corn.  It's pretty though...

Round two of corn was not so pretty, but met the same fate.

The garden looks so empty without the corn!

A few more peppers, perhaps?

My owls and bunny are getting snuggled in for the winter..

But the roses are still going nuts, despite the frost.  Silly roses!

Here are the potatoes, post frost (you can see them above, pre-frost).  Did you know that potatoes and tomatoes are actually related?  I never would have guessed that was true until I had the two kinds of plants next to each other and compared the leaves...interesting.

 Carrots, ready to harvest...

Potato harvest--kind of disappointing.  Not as many as the epic "potatoes in a bucket" YouTube video led us to believe would appear.  Ah, well, always next year.  We used the potatoes in soup tonight--they were tasty!  There are a few left, we are trying to figure out the best way to store them...for the moment they are drying out in an open plastic bag on the counter, destined for the bottom drawer of the refrigerator, unless we come up with a better plan.
A few frozen jalapenos, they went from the frozen vine to the freezer.

And some carrots--aren't they cute and fat little carrots?  They also made it into our soup tonight and are also waiting for a great storage option!

So good-bye to the garden, until spring!
